Summer Working Conditions
All positions involve being on your feet and remaining active while interacting with our guests. Positions are indoors, semi-outdoors or completely outdoors.
Most indoor positions are not air conditioned. You must be able to tolerate the heat and humidity of the Iowa summer. No matter what the weather conditions, all positions are vital to developing the fun culture our guests have come to expect here when visiting Adventureland Park.
Rides Department (16+): Duties include operating and/or assisting on various amusement park rides. Responsibilities include not only operating rides, but also assisting guests during the loading and unloading process and ensuring guest safety. These positions involve being on your feet for extended periods of time, requires good mobility and moderate lifting. You will be exposed to various weather conditions and have constant guest interaction. View a video of this department
Retail Department (14+): Duties include working in one of many souvenir shops or kiosk in the park and waterpark. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to using point of sale computers, cash registers, credit card machines, stocking stores, cleaning, moderate lifting, standing and walking during your entire shift. Stores and kiosks include both indoor and outdoor facilities exposed to various weather conditions. Employees should be prepared for a fast paced, high volume and highly active retail environment. Foods Department (14+): Duties include taking food orders from guests, filling orders, accomplishing a cash transaction with or without a cash register, and preparation of food items. Lifting requirements include receiving and unpacking inventory and daily lifting of food items. Safety requirements include use of personal protective equipment for chemical hazards, proper safety attire and following all other company safety requirements. View a video of this department.
Games Department (14+): Duties include working in one of many games or arcades located throughout the park. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to cash handling, walking, standing, moderate lifting, prize issuance and player encouragement including microphone usage. Basic math skills and an outgoing personality are required. Games are located in both covered and uncovered facilities exposed to various weather elements. Lifeguards (15+): Duties include actively guarding structures and pools to ensure guest safety and protect lives through active scanning, performance of rescue and first aid skills, as well as high knowledge of park rules and procedures. Lifeguards will maintain constant readiness of rescue skills and regularly participate in training sessions to demonstrate physical and mental competency. This includes but is not limited to required skills as prescribed by the American Red Cross Lifeguard Program and additional skills as necessary for Adventure Bay Water Park operations. Employees will be safety-minded and be objectively disciplined with guests and coworkers alike while staying positive, friendly and approachable using exceptional customer service skills. Adventureland offers several internship opportunities during our Summer season. If you want to learn people skills, help lead a team, and do it in the most exciting place possible, this is the opportunity for you! These positions offer the most unique, fun yet demanding, and rewarding atmosphere in which a student could spend their summer! Departments currently accepting interns are Audiovisual, Accounting/Bank, Bars, Food and Beverage, Hotel Front Desk, Housekeeping, Human Resources, and Retail.
